Transformative Bodywork Techniques

Relaxation Techniques

Deeply meditative sessions designed to promote relaxation and overall well-being.

It is the foundation on which massage was built.

  • Effleurage:

    • Long strokes

    • Slow strokes

    • Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

    • Practitioner leads while receiver is passive

  • At each stage VR1 and/or breath-work can be added to promote the effects of strokes.

Remedial Massage

There are many advanced techniques for pain relief and tissue therapy.

These will be personalised, for your specific areas of concern.

There will be pre-assessment of various aspects of structure, balance and function.

Likewise there will be post-assessments at various intervals, of structure, balance and function

Remedial work is focussed on your problem areas, but is also likely to include work on the actual root-causes of your problems - which may be in a different locations.

This includes the remedial techniques using the many different types of reflexes derived from Feldenkrais and Ortho-bionomy as well as Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST) in its several forms.

NOTE: The word reflexes (above) does not refer to the discipline known as Reflexology which involves sometimes strong and painful pressure on targeted points of the feet, hands and elsewhere on the body.

I studied reflexology as part of my diploma - and I no longer use this form of it.

Likewise: Deep Tissue Massage (DTM) - which uses forceful pressure on the soft tissues (muscles tendons, ligaments and fascia - is deprecated.

I have formed the view that : where rehabilitation is the goal, due to accident, injury or otherwise beneficial surgery (typically scar tissue is the problem) some therapeutic value may be gained via painful means; but generally, pain is counterproductive because it results in a contractile response and is inimical to relaxation which assists in gaining better muscle tone or in a joint's improved freedom of movement. I will never tell you: No pain, no gain !!

Neurobiological Insights

Explore transformative aspects of neurobiology to enhance your mental and physical well-being.

This can encompass how to develop new habits, or re-develop forgotten habits (postural or not).

For example, this might involve the re-development of improved habits of breathing, resulting in better upright posture.

Some of the techniques of this section are implicit in the above paragraphs.

For example, the use of reflex methods of ortho-bionomy and Feldenkrais and Cranio-sacral methods.

Diaphragm-breathing is commonly not available; Chest breathing is often hampered by contracted intercostal (between the ribs) muscles which aid breathing in, and out; the neck muscles are likewise vital aspects of the breath - they aid in elevating the chest, for example.

The role of habit, and how to evolve yourself past it, is fundamental to postural improvement and vital self-care.

Volitional Release (VR123)

Volitional Release (VR123) is an innovative protocol - developed by Stuart Young.

You will be empowered to use it in any therapeutic situation - and in vital self care.

That is: you will be able to use it - to magnify the effectiveness of any type of therapy - as well as using it in vital self-care.

There are three levels of the VR protocol: VR1, VR2 and VR3.

It involves using an easily understood process involving some fundamental insights into how it is that decisions, made at the conscious level (of volition or choice), can be brought into effective use for releasing:

  • Physical tensions in body tissues

  • Historical decisions (remembered or even forgotten events) which may be blocking yourintrinsic self-healing processes

  • Emotional states, memories and even trauma which seem to be beyond conscious repair

  • And finally, you will be able to your VR123 skills in Vital Self-Care at home.

The Perrin Technique is a research-backed UK protocol for beneficial treatment of many types of post viral conditions, such as Long Covid, Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS), CFS etc.

It was developed by Perrin, a British Osteopath.

It is, however, not completely new.

The most fundamental treatment is known in Australia as Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD).

MLD has been commonly used to treat post operative lymph problems arising when lymph nodes have been removed, but is also useful in treating many other difficult conditions.

It has a self-care component which facilitates wellness at home. It aids and supports your own immune response.

The specific Perrin Technique includes both

  • Therapy done in clinic...

  • Instruction in vital Self-Care at home.

And a new technique...
